The Great Escape festival returned to Brighton, with the Canadian music scene once again given a prominent showcase at the Green Door Store, now a traditional home for the country's touring artists during the event. The venue hosted a packed programme spanning electronic music, hip-hop, country songwriting and pop, reflecting Canada's continued strength as a source of buzzy new acts and underlining the strong ties between the two countries' music industries.

Highlights over Thursday and Friday included Manitoba indie-pop duo sundayclub, former Hey Rosetta! frontman Tim Baker performing solo, Calgary producer Micah Sage promoting her new EP 'GIRLFRIEND', and Toronto electronic-pop trio Featurette. Friday's line-up brought further variety, with Western Canadian songwriter Skinny Dyck, Winnipeg's Slow Leaves, Montreal DIY artist Annie-Claude Deschênes, Toronto's Charlie Houston performing songs from her debut album 'Big After I Die', and Montreal trio Yoo Doo Right closing out the coverage with their avant-rock sound.
