Canal+ Group’s Revenue Jumps 40% as MultiChoice Deal Boosts Earnings and Subscriptions

Variety · 3 hours ago

Canal+ Group, the French media giant behind Studiocanal, reported a 40% jump in first-half 2026 revenue to €4.3 billion ($4.8 billion), driven largely by its acquisition of pay-TV firm MultiChoice, which has significantly expanded the group's reach across Africa. The results underline how the deal is reshaping Canal+'s scale and growth prospects, with CEO Maxime Saada pointing to strategic progress and record subscriber gains as evidence the MultiChoice turnaround is on track.

The company has already realised $136 million in profit-and-loss synergies from the deal, and remains on course to hit its $284 million synergy target by the end of 2026. EBIT rose 68% to $492 million, a 10.1% margin, while operational cash flow reached €636 million. Subscriptions across MultiChoice territories grew 40%, with South Africa posting its best month for new sign-ups in a decade in June, fuelled by FIFA World Cup coverage and new Novelas+ channels; the group also secured South Africa's Premier Soccer League and Rugby World Cup rights, and is investing in African productions including "The Road Home" and an adaptation of "Americanah." Studiocanal, meanwhile, notched theatrical hits in several markets and has a strong festival slate ahead, including Danny Boyle's "Ink" opening Venice.
