Candlemass are writing and recording demos for a new studio album, according to vocalist Johan Längqvist, who says the band has completed roughly half an album’s worth of material. The record would follow 2022’s Sweet Evil Sun and could arrive in 2027, although no release date has been confirmed.

Bassist Leif Edling remains the principal songwriter and lyricist, while Längqvist contributes vocal demos and experiments with multiple melodies during recording. Candlemass last released the Black Star EP in May 2025; the Swedish band reunited with Längqvist in 2018 and briefly performed with former singer Messiah Marcolin in Athens in 2025.
