Cape Verde's national football coach, known as Bubista, has resigned to take charge of Moroccan club RS Berkane, just weeks after leading the Blue Sharks to their first-ever World Cup appearance. The 56-year-old took over the side in January 2020 and guided them to a memorable last-32 exit against eventual runners-up Argentina, capping an underdog run that also saw him reach the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals in 2023. His departure adds to a wave of managerial changes among African sides that featured at the World Cup.

Bubista has signed a two-year deal with Berkane, who finished second in the Moroccan top flight last season and are three-time winners of the Caf Confederation Cup. He replaces Moin Chaabani, who has left to become Tunisia's new head coach. Cape Verde's football federation thanked Bubista for his contribution to the national team's development, while other African World Cup nations including Algeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Senegal have also parted ways with their coaches since the tournament, with Ghana's Carlos Queiroz's future also uncertain.
