Edinburgh Zoo capybara pup Bru enjoys Halloween pumpkin treat
Six-month-old capybara Bru enjoyed a Halloween-themed treat at Edinburgh Zoo, where staff offered the young animal pumpkins, squash, carrots and bamboo leaves. Bru is Scotland’s first capybara born in 18 years, making the pup a notable arrival for the zoo and its visitors.
Bru’s parents, Luna and Rodney, were also seen nibbling on the pumpkin while Bru explored with his mother nearby. The public chose his name because newborn capybaras weigh about as much as a six-pack of Irn-Bru, around 1.5 to 2.5kg; Bru now weighs more than 36 cans. Zoo keeper Jonny Appleyard said the pup was growing braver and encouraged people to visit while he is still young.
