Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy has signed an improved three-year contract, extending his stay at the club despite recent interest from Burnley, as the Bluebirds prepare to return to the Championship. The 48-year-old, who already had a deal until 2028, guided Cardiff back to the second tier at the first attempt after taking charge last summer, having previously worked as a Manchester City academy coach. Owner Vincent Tan praised him as one of the best young coaches in British football, reflecting the strength of their relationship after Barry-Murphy spent four weeks with Tan's family in Malaysia over the summer.

Cardiff had been relegated to League One for the first time in two decades before Barry-Murphy's appointment 13 months ago, but he won 27 of 46 league games, finishing second behind Lincoln City with 91 points while scoring the most goals in the division. He has also been credited with developing young talent, with four players making their Wales debuts under his guidance, and previously helped nurture Chelsea's Cole Palmer. Assistant Lee Riley and head of performance Kevin Gibbins have also signed new deals until 2029, while Cardiff prepare for their Championship return with a friendly against AS Roma, a Carabao Cup tie against Swindon Town, and an opening league game against Wrexham on 17 August.
