Wakefield care home review finds neglect and poor oversight
A Care Quality Commission follow-up review found that Brantwood Hall Care Home in Wakefield had made no improvements since it was previously rated inadequate, with new concerns about residents’ care and treatment. Inspectors said weak leadership and oversight were contributing to neglect, social isolation and failures to protect residents’ dignity.
The report described one resident who could not move independently being left in a chair for at least nine hours while music played beyond their reach, with no recorded outdoor access or meaningful activity over a period from 1 May to 6 July 2026. Other concerns included residents asking for reading material, someone left in urine-soaked clothes, insufficient staffing and incomplete records; inspectors also said a serious injury had not been reported to the regulator.
