Kansas State University student Kyra Kinnison, 20, survived a four-car pile-up near Ogden, Kansas, then fell from a 70-foot bridge while avoiding another vehicle. She had left her car to check on her boyfriend, Dalten Grabast, who had been involved in the pile-up; the incident highlights how quickly the scene developed into a second, potentially fatal accident.

Kinnison was rescued from below the bridge using high-angle equipment after an operation that Grabast said took around 30 to 40 minutes. She suffered fractures to her back, pelvis and tailbone, and her hip surgery was postponed; she was taken to hospital in Manhattan and then Topeka for further treatment. She remembers little of the incident, and a friend has started a fundraiser to help with her medical bills, rent and other costs.
