Konami is marking Castlevania’s 40th anniversary by making the original 1986 game free to download on the App Store and Google Play until 24 October 2026. The promotion precedes the release of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a new mainline game launching on 15 October, and highlights the enduring importance of the series’ vampire-hunting origins.

The original game introduced Simon Belmont and his battle against Dracula, while Belmont’s Curse follows Rose, daughter of Castlevania 3 protagonist Trevor Belmont, in 1499 Paris and Dracula’s castle. Castlevania collections are also heavily discounted on PlayStation and Steam, a demo for Belmont’s Curse arrives on 1 October with progress carrying over, and anniversary concerts are planned for London, Tokyo and Los Angeles in spring 2027.
