CD Projekt Red powerless regarding PS5 disc edition of The Witcher 4, but promises a game box with “feelies” whatever happens

Eurogamer · 2 hours ago

CD Projekt Red has admitted it cannot guarantee a physical disc edition of The Witcher 4 on PS5, as the decision rests entirely with Sony rather than the studio itself. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski explained that discs for first-party platforms must be manufactured in the platform holder's own factories, and Sony currently plans to halt PS5 disc production from January 2028 — the same year The Witcher 4 is due for release, making a clash increasingly likely.

Nowakowski stressed that CD Projekt Red remains committed to physical collector's editions regardless, promising a box containing "feelies" for fans even if a traditional disc isn't possible. It remains unclear whether Sony's cut-off will be a hard deadline or a gradual phase-out, and no specific 2028 release window for The Witcher 4 has been confirmed. In the meantime, the studio is releasing The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past expansion next year, alongside a substantial Witcher 3 remaster overhauling combat, enemy behaviour, skill trees and horse riding, due out on 29th September.
