Celta Vigo’s opening La Liga match against Osasuna has been postponed after a fungal outbreak damaged the Estadio de Balaidos pitch. The decision matters because it disrupts the start of both clubs’ league campaigns and highlights the stadium’s inability to host a competitive fixture safely.

The game had been scheduled for Sunday at Abanca Balaidos. A La Liga technical inspection found that fungus had harmed the playing surface, while adverse weather had slowed recovery work; Celta, Osasuna, La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation agreed that the turf was unfit for football.
