Look Back gets 4K UHD collector’s edition from GKIDS in September

Polygon · 1 day ago

GKIDS has unveiled plans to release physical media versions of several anime films in upgraded formats. Most prominent is Look Back, a 2024 film adaptation of a manga by the creator of Chainsaw Man. The story centres on two young artists whose initial competitive dynamic evolves into something more complex, marked by the kind of emotional depth and surprising narrative turns associated with its source material's creator. The collector's edition combines 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray discs with supplementary materials including a 160-page book, available for pre-order at a promotional price, with delivery expected in September.

Three additional anime titles round out the release schedule. Angel's Egg, a 1985 philosophical work featuring distinctive artwork by a renowned Final Fantasy artist, will include audio commentary from that artist. Linda Linda Linda, released in 2005, offers a nuanced portrayal of high school musicians navigating their final performance together. Love & Pop, a 1998 film that served as the live-action directorial debut for the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, employs a distinctive handheld video aesthetic that captures its era. Each release incorporates unique supplementary content tailored to the individual title, with staggered release dates across the coming months.
