Chargers coach Mike McDaniel makes major change to try and spark offense amid dreadful start to season
Winless Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel will call plays from the coaches’ booth, hoping a different vantage point can help revive the team’s struggling offence. The change comes after the Chargers went nine quarters without scoring a touchdown, putting added pressure on McDaniel as he seeks to improve results.
The Chargers are averaging 14.1 points per game, the lowest figure in the NFL, and have lost all seven games this season. McDaniel said the booth should help him see the whole field and assess adjustments, while position coaches handle sideline communication; head coach Jim Harbaugh approved the move. McDaniel last called plays from the booth as San Francisco’s offensive coordinator in 2021, and the Chargers’ next chance for a first win is against the 2-4 Houston Texans.
In short
- Mike McDaniel will call plays from the booth.
- The Chargers have gone nine quarters without a touchdown.
- Los Angeles is 0-7 and averages an NFL-low 14.1 points per game.
