Reports have surfaced of college students across the United States marking the first anniversary of Charlie Kirk's assassination with mocking "look-alike contests" and celebratory flyers, according to anonymous posts on campus social media platforms. Institutions including Georgetown University, the University of South Carolina, New York University, the University of Maine, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and the Rochester Institute of Technology have all had events or flyers linked to them, though several universities have publicly denied any official connection or sanctioning of the activity. The apparent trend has drawn attention because it coincides with the anniversary of a politically motivated killing, raising concerns about the mockery of political violence on campuses.

Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was shot dead on 10 September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University. Flyers and posts advertised events such as a "Kirkaversary" contest at NYU with a $5 prize, a "Kirkiversary" contest at the University of South Carolina offering $50, and a lookalike competition at RIT with a $10 prize; other flyers at Nebraska and Tennessee contained crude jokes about his death. Georgetown and the University of South Carolina both told Fox News Digital they had no record of any registered student group organising such events and were not providing resources to support them, saying the posts appeared to originate from anonymous social media accounts rather than official university activity.
