Check out David Byrne’s ‘Biking Playlist’

NME · 3 hours ago

David Byrne, former Talking Heads frontman, has released a new "Biking Playlist" as part of his ongoing David Byrne Radio series, accompanying it with reflections on how the boundaries of pop music continue to shift. The playlist, featuring artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers and Sofia Isella, was compiled while Byrne has been touring in support of his latest solo album, 'Who Is The Sky?'.

Byrne explained that he and his band travel with folding bikes to explore new areas while on tour, and that he listens to the playlist when cycling alone on quiet routes to clear his head. In an accompanying note, he argued that distinctions between mainstream and unconventional pop music are constantly evolving, saying he considers all the songs "equal" regardless of how they are categorised. 'Who Is The Sky?', released last September, was Byrne's first studio album since 2018's 'American Utopia' and featured contributions from Hayley Williams, St. Vincent and The Smile's Tom Skinner.
