New Radicals have released their first original song in 28 years, "One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)", which serves as the theme song for the upcoming romantic comedy One Night Only, starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner. The release marks a significant return for the band, led by songwriter Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois, who scored a major hit with "You Get What You Give" and released just one album, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too", before splitting in 1999.

The piano-led pop-rock track, written by Alexander, Brisebois and Nick Lashley, came out on 31 July and echoes the band's familiar sound. It ties in with the film directed by Will Gluck, which is set in a world where premarital sex is illegal except for one night a year, and also stars Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Molly Ringwald and Nicholas Braun; it opens in the US on 7 August and the UK on 28 August. Since disbanding, Alexander has written hits including "Murder On The Dancefloor" and "Lost Stars", while New Radicals briefly reunited in 2021 for Joe Biden's inauguration and again in 2024 for Kamala Harris's presidential campaign.
