Chelsea v Manchester United buildup, Premier League, WSL and more – matchday live

The live blog previews a packed day of football, led by Chelsea’s lunchtime Premier League meeting with Manchester United. Chelsea and manager Xabi Alonso need a response after a poor display against Tottenham, while United manager Michael Carrick and captain Bruno Fernandes remain in place following clear-the-air talks.

Eight Premier League matches are scheduled, including five 3pm kick-offs: Manchester City v Brighton and a bottom-of-the-table clash between 19th-placed Coventry and 20th-placed Sunderland. The day also includes Fabio Celestini’s first match in charge of Championship side Burnley, two WSL and Scottish League Cup fixtures, and major derbies in Germany and Italy.
