A chicken processing factory in Thorne, near Doncaster, is to meet the local MP after residents complained of persistent bad odours they believe are coming from the site. Doncaster Council has opened an environmental health investigation, and Chesterfield Poultry Ltd has agreed to work with the authority and MP Lee Pitcher, who says the smell has significantly affected residents' quality of life, particularly during recent hot weather.

Pitcher said environmental health officers had already inspected the factory after weeks of complaints, many of which were also raised on local social media. A council spokesperson confirmed it was looking into the concerns, while an Environment Agency inspection in May found no breach of noise or odour rules. A local councillor cautioned that other farms and industrial sites nearby could also be contributing. The Thorne plant processes birds from 60 family-run farms across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, supplying around a million birds per week, and the company and MP are due to meet in August to discuss tackling the odours.
