His court appearance has been delayed pending a mental health evaluation, making the case significant both because of the seriousness of the alleged violence and its connection to a prominent NFL family.

Mia Bieniemy was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was reported to be in a stable condition. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he supported the Bieniemy family following the incident, while the criminal case against Elijah Bieniemy remains ongoing.
