Child killed and two others critical after Valley Heights stabbing

A child has been killed and two others remain in critical condition following a stabbing incident in the Blue Mountains town of Valley Heights on Sunday afternoon. Three young children and a woman suffered stab wounds inside a vehicle, with the woman's injuries believed to have been self-inflicted. The tragedy highlights a serious incident involving extremely young victims, with bystanders providing emergency first aid before paramedics arrived.

Emergency services were called at approximately 12:45pm to Waratah Road, where they found three children aged between six months and four years old, plus a woman in her 40s. One child was pronounced dead at the scene, whilst the two surviving children and the woman were transported to Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children's Hospital, where all three remain in critical condition. Police have established a crime scene and begun their investigation, with formal identification of the deceased still pending and no other suspects being sought at this stage.
