The incident comes just weeks after an elderly grandfather was tossed into the air by a bison in the same park, underscoring a recurring pattern of tourists misjudging the animals' size, speed and unpredictability.

Yellowstone authorities have repeatedly warned visitors to keep a minimum distance of 25 yards from bison, which can run up to three times faster than humans despite their bulky appearance. Despite these warnings, close encounters and resulting injuries continue to occur during the park's busy summer season, as families and photographers venture nearer to the animals than is safe.
