A court in Mexico has heard chilling testimony that a man accused of murdering two Australian brothers and their American friend allegedly boasted afterwards about how the trio cried and begged for their lives before he shot them. Jake Robinson, 30, Callum Robinson, 33, and Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, were killed near a remote camping spot in Baja California in April 2024 while on a surfing trip, with their bodies later found at the bottom of a well and their burnt-out pick-up truck abandoned nearby. Three men, Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús, are on trial in Ensenada accused of aggravated homicide, with prosecutors alleging the killings occurred during a robbery for the victims' phones and tyres.

The evidence came from Ari Gisell, 23, the former girlfriend of accused man Jesús Gerardo, who is herself serving a 20-year sentence for instigating the robbery. She told the court she had first approached the men for fuel and mentioned their phones and tyres to her boyfriend, though she denied encouraging a robbery, and described hearing that the victims threw their keys and wallets from their tent while pleading not to be killed. Gisell said Jesús Gerardo later returned with three phones, two necklaces and the victims' blood-splattered vehicle, and mocked his stepson for being too frightened to take part, while the Robinson brothers' parents, Debra and Martin Robinson, sat in court to hear the testimony as the month-long trial entered its second week.
