Satellite imagery has revealed China constructing what could become the world's largest dedicated naval replenishment ship at a shipyard near Guangzhou, intended to refuel, rearm and resupply Chinese aircraft carrier battle groups operating far from home waters. The development matters because logistics vessels of this kind extend a navy's operational reach well beyond its home coastline, allowing carrier groups to sustain extended deployments in distant seas rather than being tethered to nearby ports.

The vessel measures roughly 885 feet in length, which would make it the largest ship of its type anywhere in the world once complete.
