Chris Hansen's TruBlu streaming network released a trailer for his three-year-old documentary "I'm Chris Hansen" as the A24 film "Primetime" (starring Robert Pattinson as Hansen) opened in cinemas. In his first interview since the film's Venice premiere, Hansen heavily criticised "Primetime" as a distorted portrayal of his child protection work, calling it "a complete work of fiction attached to a real name" that transforms serious journalism into a horror film. He purchased advertisements for TruBlu to run ahead of Primetime screenings whilst refusing to sign a non-disclosure agreement to see the film himself.

Hansen alleged that the studio and director deliberately avoided contacting him because they wanted to create a specific narrative rather than understand the truth, and he claimed this amounts to exploitative behaviour. He emphasised he has no personal issue with Pattinson, whom he described as a great actor and gracious person, but said the filmmaker put the actor in a difficult position by not seeking any consultation. Hansen's documentary and streaming service are now benefiting commercially from the film's release and public controversy.
