Christian Yelich hopes 2027 MLB season starts on time as CBA expiration looms over baseball
Christian Yelich hopes the 2027 Major League Baseball season will begin on time, but negotiations over a new labour agreement could disrupt the schedule. The current collective bargaining agreement expires on 1 December, and no 2027 season can proceed without a replacement deal.
The dispute centres on team spending: owners are seeking a salary cap and floor, while players oppose a cap and want expanded free agency and arbitration rights, a higher minimum salary and a way to encourage teams to meet payroll targets. The previous agreement, reached in March 2022, came after weeks of missed spring training and delayed the season by a week. Yelich, whose Brewers won 103 regular-season games with a mid-range payroll, said everyone hopes to avoid losing playing time.
In short
- Yelich hopes the 2027 season starts on time.
