John Leguizamo has spoken to Polygon ahead of the release of Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, describing what it was like joining the director's ensemble as a newcomer. The actor revealed that Nolan personally prepared him for the shoot, with the standout piece of advice being that no one would be allowed a phone on set — a restriction Leguizamo praised for forcing the cast to talk and spend time together in person.

The no-phone policy, which Nolan is known to follow himself at all times, was also highlighted by co-star Tom Holland, who told GQ he had to rely on "sneaky" crew members for updates while trying to follow a Europa League match during filming in Los Angeles. Leguizamo, known for roles ranging from Luigi in the original Super Mario Bros. film to Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age franchise, also praised Nolan's hands-on, intense approach, noting that the director endures the same harsh conditions as his actors rather than watching from a distance. The Odyssey, which features newcomers including Lupita Nyong'o, Tom Holland and Leguizamo, is released in cinemas on 17 July.
