Speaking on a podcast, Romano attributed their incompatibility to their vastly different upbringings and professional approaches to work, a dynamic that is particularly significant given that both went on to become prominent actors and the show's continuing cultural relevance.

Romano, raised with structured training and a type-A approach to acting—including preparation for Juilliard's pre-college programme—contrasted her background with LaBeouf's chaotic childhood marked by his father's addiction and sometimes abusive behaviour. Whilst filming from 2000 to 2003, the two were just 14 and 12 years old respectively and spent three years in adjoining trailers. Romano likened LaBeouf's upbringing to the 1995 film "Kids," though she acknowledged his determination in securing his own manager at age eight. The actress, releasing her memoir "Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star" on 6 October, recently shared a photograph of the two together, expressing regret that they couldn't have supported one another during their personal struggles.
