Chuck Lorre, the television writer-producer behind hits such as "The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon," is to receive the Founders Angel Award at Project Angel Food's annual Angel Awards Gala on 26 September in Los Angeles. The award, only presented once before, is the charity's highest honour, recognising individuals whose leadership and generosity have had a lasting impact on its mission. Lorre's philanthropic work, through The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation, previously helped triple Project Angel Food's annual meal-production capacity, and the organisation's chief executive credited him with the largest gift in its history.

The Grammy-nominated band Barenaked Ladies, who recorded "The History of Everything" as the theme song for "The Big Bang Theory," will perform at the event, which is sponsored by Warner Bros. Television, Cedars-Sinai Medical Group and Wells Fargo Bank. Project Angel Food, founded in 1989 during the AIDS crisis by Marianne Williamson, delivers more than 1.5 million medically tailored meals a year to almost 7,800 clients across Los Angeles County, and has provided over 21 million meals in total since it began.
