Cineplex Boards Sanfic Title ‘La Residencia’ From ‘Algo Azul’ Director Mariel García Spooner

Cineplex has acquired North and South American sales rights to La Residencia, a dramedy by Panamanian director Mariel García Spooner, whose debut Algo Azul was released in 11 territories. The deal gives the film a distributor as it nears completion and prepares for its festival launch.

The story follows three friends in their mid-sixties who face financial difficulties by setting up a social club for seniors and rethinking their futures. The film, starring Colombian actresses Xilena Aycardi and Marcela Carvajal with a Panamanian cast, is picture-locked and in final post-production. It took part in Sanfic Industria’s WIP Iberoamericana section and received a finishing fund at Laliff 2026.
