Clair Obscur Switch 2 status reveals the reality of Nintendo’s console

Polygon · 1 hour ago

Sandfall Interactive says bringing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Switch 2 would be a major technical challenge, despite its desire to release the acclaimed role-playing game on Nintendo’s console. The situation highlights that Switch 2, while more capable than previous Nintendo hardware and able to host some demanding modern games, still has practical limits for developers—particularly smaller studios relying on advanced Unreal Engine 5 features.

The developer says parts of Unreal Engine 5 used by Clair Obscur, including Blueprint-based systems, do not currently function adequately on Switch 2, though lighter tools such as Lumen Lite may eventually help. Other difficult ports underline the point: Borderlands 4 remains indefinitely delayed, while Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is due on 28 August after a year-long delay and may serve as an important test of the console’s flexibility.

  • Clair Obscur faces significant Switch 2 technical obstacles.
  • Unreal Engine 5 compatibility is a key issue.
  • Switch 2 cannot guarantee every major third-party port.
