The Daily Mail has published a correction and apology regarding an article about ex-Coronation Street actor Qasim Akhtar published on 22 November 2025. The newspaper has now accepted that claims in the article—that Akhtar had moved to Pakistan and was endorsing extremist Islamic views—were entirely false. The publication has agreed to pay damages to Akhtar and apologised for harm caused by the inaccurate reporting.

The original article falsely claimed Akhtar "condemned his degenerate past" and had "praised" Islamic preacher Uthman Ibn Farooq. In reality, Manchester remains Akhtar's home; whilst he did meet Mr Farooq, he has never endorsed or supported extremist views. The correction clarifies that no part of the original claims about Akhtar's supposed ideological shift had factual basis.
