Classy Mandhana helps Super Giants beat Sunrisers

BBC Sport ·

Smriti Mandhana struck an unbeaten 88 to guide Manchester Super Giants to a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred, extending her side's unbeaten start to the tournament. The India opener's innings, her highest score in the competition, proved decisive as wickets fell around her during the chase at Headingley, with Super Giants skipper Meg Lanning the only other batter to reach double figures.

Chasing 143 for victory, Mandhana paced the innings expertly, hitting seven fours and four sixes off just 50 balls, before finishing the match in style with successive sixes off Jess Jonassen and Annabel Sutherland. Sunrisers had earlier posted 142-4, built around Annabel Sutherland's 35 and useful contributions from Bryony Smith (26) and Phoebe Litchfield (31), while Grace Ballinger was the pick of the Super Giants bowlers, conceding only 17 runs from her 20 balls.
