‘Clayface’ Trailer: DC Studios’ Batman Bad Guy Gets His Close-Up

Deadline · 4 hours ago

DC Studios has released the official trailer for "Clayface", a stand-alone Batman villain film starring Tom Rhys Harries, ahead of this week's Comic-Con where more footage is expected. Directed by James Watkins, the film sits within the wider Batman universe DC Studios has been building, following the success of HBO Max series "The Penguin" and slotting in between Matt Reeves's "The Batman" (2022) and its upcoming sequel (2028), both starring Robert Pattinson.

The film reimagines Clayface as Matt Hagen, a struggling actor who is disfigured and later injected with mysterious chemicals during a hospital attack, gaining shapeshifting powers in what DC describes as a body-horror descent from Hollywood star to "revenge-filled monster." The cast includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, with a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. It is produced by Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn and Peter Safran, and is set for US theatrical release by Warner Bros on 23 October 2026.
