Australia’s Coalition has proposed dismantling much of the country’s current climate and energy framework, including repealing net zero legislation and allowing greater investment in coal, gas and nuclear power. The plan would also remove four offshore wind zones and scrap existing vehicle emissions rules, marking a sharp contrast with Labor’s renewable-energy targets.

The eight-point programme would reportedly be implemented within 30 days of a Coalition election victory and prioritise affordability, reliability and energy security. It follows internal disputes that led the Coalition to abandon its net zero commitment last year, while critics say the policy would increase climate risks, reliance on fossil fuels and exposure to global energy shocks.
