Cody Bellinger caps stellar Yankees defensive season with Platinum Glove
Cody Bellinger won the American League Platinum Glove, recognising him as the league’s top defensive player, after already receiving a Gold Glove earlier in the week. The award adds to a standout season for the Yankees outfielder and makes him the second Yankee to earn the honour.
The Platinum Glove is decided by fan vote among that league’s Gold Glove winners; Pete Crow-Armstrong won for the National League. Bellinger played 130 games in the outfield, mostly in left, and ranked third across baseball with 21 defensive runs saved. He also recorded six outs above average, had a .989 fielding percentage and played six games at first base; earlier in the season, he was named All-Star Game MVP.
In short
- Bellinger wins the AL Platinum Glove.
- He ranked third in baseball with 21 defensive runs saved.
- The award caps a season that also brought All-Star Game MVP honours.
