Colchester United’s under-21s beat Sheffield Wednesday under-21s 2-1 at the JobServe Community Stadium, securing victory with a late goal. The result mattered because Colchester recovered from conceding an equaliser and showed enough attacking threat to earn all three points in the Premier League Professional Development League.

Milton Oni put Colchester ahead in the first half, but Wednesday levelled shortly before the interval when Harry Chadbourne’s looping cross evaded the trialist goalkeeper. Colchester created the better chances after the break, before substitute Brume Okuku headed home from Ronnie Harvey’s corner in the final 10 minutes.
