Chris Spatola, an ESPN college basketball analyst, has died at the age of 47. Spatola had a distinguished career spanning multiple domains—he was a former Army Black Knights basketball player, a five-year active-duty military veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, an assistant coach at Duke University, and a respected broadcaster. His work at Duke came under Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski, who was also his father-in-law, and ESPN praised his unique perspective and passion for the sport.

Spatola's accomplishments included leading Army in scoring during three of his four seasons as a starter, finishing his college career with 1,543 points and ranking among Army's all-time top 10 scorers. After his military service from 2002 to 2007, during which he received the Joint Service Commendation Medal and Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional performance, he joined Duke's coaching staff from 2007 to 2012. During that period, he was part of the coaching team that won the 2010 NCAA Division I national championship and also worked as a court coach for the U.S. men's national basketball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
