Three young people killed in Monterey County head-on crash, with cause unknown

Three young people, including UCLA student Abigail Tinoco, were killed in a head-on crash in Monterey County, California, on Sunday night. The collision also left three people with major injuries, and investigators have not established why one vehicle crossed into the opposing lane.

The California Highway Patrol said a Honda CR-V travelling north entered the southbound lane and struck a Nissan Altima at about 9pm on Abbott Street. Tinoco, 19, was pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer; Sebastian Burgos and Noah Trevino were both 18. The surviving passengers, aged 20, 20 and 21, were taken to hospital, and authorities said neither driver had been drinking.
