Explained simply
The Ramayana is one of the major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, with stories and versions that have shaped religious practice and culture across South Asia. Its central tale follows Prince Rama, whose wife Sita is abducted by the demon king Ravana, and Rama’s effort to rescue her.
The film is the first part of a planned two-film adaptation. Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Yash plays Ravana and Sai Pallavi plays Sita; Nitesh Tiwari directs, with Namit Malhotra producing. The story’s importance comes from its long-standing place in Hindu traditions and its many retellings in literature, theatre and film.
