Collins’s Maine office vandalized on eve of election
Developed over time first seen 7 hours ago
Red paint was left outside Republican senator Susan Collins’s constituency office in Biddeford, Maine, on the night before the 3 November election. Photographs shared by her office show the words “blood on her hands” painted on the pavement near the entrance. Biddeford police said they received a report shortly before 11pm on Monday. No arrest or charge had been reported in the coverage available on Tuesday.
Collins’s chief of staff, Katie Brown, described the incident as an attempt to intimidate the senator and her staff, and said they remained at work. The Biddeford office had also been defaced in September, while Collins’s Bangor home was egged that month. The latest incident came as Collins sought a sixth Senate term against Democrat Troy Jackson in a closely contested race. The identity and motive of whoever painted the message have not been established.
