Colman Domingo and Robert O'Hara are now reported to be in talks not just to write but to co-write a new live-action Princess Tiana film for Disney, with fresh reporting adding more detail on the character's original story and Domingo's packed schedule. The project, still at a very early stage, is described as an original story inspired by the 2009 animated film "The Princess and the Frog" rather than a straight remake, pairing two acclaimed Black creatives with one of Disney's most prominent princess characters.

The 2009 original, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, followed Tiana, a New Orleans waitress who dreams of opening her own restaurant, and grossed $267 million worldwide while earning three Oscar nominations, including for best animated feature. Domingo, an Emmy winner and Oscar nominee, is having a standout 2026 with the billion-dollar hit "Michael" and further Emmy nods for "Euphoria," and will next direct, produce and star in a Nat "King" Cole biopic; O'Hara, a Tony nominee for directing "Slave Play," rounds out the writing pair. Disney has not commented, and Deadline first broke the story.
