Belleza filmed in Bogotá as Colombia doubles for Mexico City
New production company Miércoles Entertainment, co-founded by former Pantelion and Pantaya executive Paul Presburger, has shot its debut feature, "Belleza," in Bogotá, Colombia, standing in for its Mexican setting of Mexico City. Drawn by Colombia's film incentives, the production wrapped on budget and on schedule, marking a smooth launch for the fledgling company's slate and a notable example of Colombia serving as a cost-effective stand-in for other Latin American locations.
Shot across roughly half a dozen locations in May over four weeks, "Belleza" used a Colombian crew alongside a Mexican cast, acting coach and director Nadia Ayala. Secuoya Studios provided production services and financing, effectively cash-flowing the project by capitalising on partner agreements and monetising tax credits. Starring Maite Perroni and Fernanda Castillo, the film follows five women navigating body image, social pressure and identity. Miércoles, which teamed with Hulu in October and plans two to three films and a couple of series a year, has struck a deal for Lionsgate to distribute the film across international TV platforms outside the U.S.
