Colourful JRPG Armed Fantasia has been cancelled, four years after a successful Kickstarter campaign descended into delays and lawsuits
Armed Fantasia, a JRPG inspired by Wild Arms and led by former producer Akifumi Kaneko, has been cancelled by publisher 505 Games’ parent company, Digital Bros. The decision is significant because the game was one of two highly successful Kickstarter projects intended to revive beloved classic RPG traditions, yet neither appears likely to produce a completed mainline game.
Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood raised ¥379,328,385—almost four times their ¥100 million target—in a 2022 “Double Kickstarter” campaign. Armed Fantasia was later picked up by 505 Games but missed its planned March 2025 release before being delayed indefinitely, while Penny Blood became embroiled in a lawsuit over allegedly withheld funds and remains without a publisher; its spin-off, Penny Blood: Hellbound, was released in 2024.
