Columbia mayor wins Democratic primary for Ogles seat in Tennessee
Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder has won the Democratic primary for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District, securing his party’s nomination for the November election. The result matters because he will now contest a district that has been reshaped by redistricting and has become a potential, though difficult, target for Democrats.
Molder will face former Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, who defeated incumbent Republican Andy Ogles in the Republican primary. The general election is scheduled for 3 November; the newly drawn district has 82 per cent new voters, according to an Associated Press estimate.
