A community cafe has opened in Longley, one of the most deprived areas of Sheffield, offering "pay as you feel" meals cooked from surplus supermarket food. Hope Kitchen Social Cafe was founded by chef Gabriela Socol to give local residents a place to eat and socialise, aiming to tackle both food insecurity and loneliness in a neighbourhood with significant health and economic challenges.

The cafe operates three days a week from the Longley4Green Community Centre and is funded by NHS South Yorkshire's This Is Us programme, which targets areas of high deprivation. It receives weekly deliveries of surplus food from Fareshare, and organisers say the project aims to improve nutrition knowledge and reduce reliance on processed food, alongside connecting residents to other support services.
