His distinctive bangs, which form part of his Team Coco branding and recently appeared in Toy Story 5, were temporarily replaced by a slicked-back look that significantly altered his appearance. The change resulted from attending the Obama Presidential Center opening ceremony, where he applied sunscreen to his face but failed to wear a hat, leaving his scalp exposed to intense sun exposure.

According to O'Brien's account on his podcast, the sunburn progressed over several days, causing severe itching and visible peeling of the skin. To relieve the discomfort, he treated his scalp with oil before recording an episode, which meant he appeared on camera with the oil-slicked styling still in place. He acknowledged the jarring transformation through self-deprecating humour, comparing the result to characters from classic films, while expressing confidence that his scalp would heal and allow his hair to return to its customary style.
