Consortium in talks to buy Liverpool minority stake

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

A consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia is in talks to buy a minority stake in Liverpool FC, according to owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG). The move would mark FSG's second sale of a partial stake since taking control of the club in 2010, and comes as Bhatia steps away from a long-standing ownership role at QPR, freeing him to pursue new football investments.

FSG confirmed the consortium has "expressed interest" in a strategic minority investment, though the deal is not yet finalised. Reports suggest any agreement would value Liverpool at more than $6bn (£4.5bn), following a 2023 deal in which FSG sold a stake to Dynasty for between £82m and £164m; FSG had originally bought the club for £300m. Bhatia, 46, a former Morgan Stanley banker and son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, was a QPR director and co-owner for 18 years before stepping down this week.
