Convicted bank robber returns to old tricks with ‘old man’ mask in Florida heists, feds say
Federal prosecutors have charged David Sartin Jr., 40, with two Florida bank robberies allegedly committed while he was on supervised release. Investigators say he wore an “old man” mask resembling one used in five earlier Texas robberies, making the case notable for the alleged return to a familiar disguise and getaway vehicle.
The first robbery was at Valley Bank in Largo on 24 August 2026, where authorities say about $2,900 was taken; the second was at a Truist Bank in St Petersburg on 15 September, with about $2,554 taken. Investigators say a Toyota FJ Cruiser linked to Sartin’s earlier crimes was used in both incidents, and searches reportedly found a matching mask, clothing and a fake handgun. Sartin had begun supervised release in May 2025 after serving more than 10 years in federal prison; he was arrested on 19 September on a warrant for allegedly violating its terms.
