Costelow injury worry for Wales as Scarlets thrash Newcastle
Scarlets began their European Challenge Cup campaign with a seven-try bonus-point win over Newcastle Red Bulls, but fly-half Sam Costelow’s hamstring injury raised concern for Wales coach Steve Tandy. Macs Page scored twice on his 50th appearance, while Fletcher Anderson, Johnny Williams, Gareth Davies and Ellis Mee also crossed. Scarlets led 26-0 at half-time in front of 5,629 spectators; Newcastle scored two late tries through Oliver Spencer and Ollie Leatherbarrow. The defeat was Newcastle’s fourth in a row, while Scarlets next face a URC double-header in South Africa.
