AI reverse engineering could hasten GTA VI’s PC release, former director says
A former Rockstar technical director says AI assisted reverse engineering could put pressure on the studio to release the PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI sooner after its console launch. Obbe Vermeij argues that tools capable of converting console game code into PC ready code may weaken the long standing assumption that PC players can wait months or years for an official port.
Rockstar has historically prioritised consoles, in part because PlayStation versions sold better, and its major PC releases have often arrived much later. Vermeij estimates that attempting to reverse engineer GTA VI could cost tens of thousands of dollars in AI tokens, and says the result might be inferior to Rockstar’s own port but still good enough for some players. There is no official PC release date; reports suggest the studio is aiming for the first quarter of 2027.
In short
- AI reverse engineering may put pressure on Rockstar to speed up GTA VI’s PC port.
- A fan made port could cost tens of thousands of dollars in AI tokens.
- Reports place the unofficial PC target in the first quarter of 2027.
